Legends Ball
The Jones College Prep African American Club will present the 1st Annual Legends Ball on February 26th at 6pm at Jones. The Legends Ball is a formal event in which the African American Club has created a space where women are celebrated and honored. The purpose of this event is to give women a voice that celebrates their existence while challenging stereotypical and marginalized constructions that limit the identity of women. This year's theme is "Salt of the Earth:Black Women". The event will honor four African American women who are alumni of Jones College Prep High School. The honorees will graduate from their respective undergraduate universities in 2010. These dynamic women have not only challenged status quo norms but have been a beacon for social change at their universities and communities across the country. The cost of tickets are $20, which includes dinner, musical selections by the talented band, "Kids These Days", spoken word performances by Jones alumni, multiple tributes to African American women and much more. Just added, Dr. Barbara Easton-Watkins, Chief Educational Officer of CPS and Barbara Bates, Philanthropist and noted Fashion Designer are the featured guest speakers for the event. This event is a fundraiser to aid in the cost of ten students traveling to Ghana, Africa, in April of 2010, for a week.
