We Paint Our Faces for Recognition
There are a lot of issues present in today's society, and one of them would be the low self-esteem that teenage girls often experience. In order to "fit in" and get recognized, some wear excessive amounts of make-up, completely overlooking the fact that inner beauty is most important. Our goal is to change the way girls feel based upon the criteria that the media has set for society to follow. To alter and clarify their attitude towards beauty, we have decided to create a piece that can show everyone, not just girls, that make-up is not a mark of beauty.
The media has a way with shaping people's minds. There are many celebrities that brainwash young girls to think that they must wear a pound of make-up or dress a certain way to feel accepted and recognized in their society. Girls are easily influenced, especially at a young age. These teenage girls feel that they need to wear make-up or do things to their body to enhance their image because they look at the girl on a magazine cover and they want to achieve "the look." Teenage girls look up to many music artists as role models. If they are wearing a pound of make-up in order to look provocative for a photo shoot, then girls would feel that it is necessary to do the same in order to achieve that image.
We want to show girls that changing the way they look will never change the way they feel inside. They do not need the make-up to enhance their appearance or have grotesque cosmetic procedures to change them. People have always felt that they needed to look better to feel confident and positive about themselves.
Beauty is not based on how attractive we are to everybody else, but how attractive we are to ourselves.
