Arts/Cultural Organizations

Adler Planetarium seeks to be the foremost institution for interpreting the exploration of the universe to a broad and diverse audience. The Adler uses world-class collections, state-of-the-art theaters, leading edge research and innovative programs and exhibits to communicate information about astronomy.

American Composers Forum BandQuest is a series of new music for middle-level band. It's written especially for young students by world-class composers. The series is published by the American Composers Forum which links communities with composers and performers, encouraging the making, playing and enjoyment of new music.

Auditorium Theatre Council Since 1947 Roosevelt University's home has been the famous Auditorium Building on Michigan Avenue, overlooking Grant Park and Lake Michigan. Completed in 1890, the Auditorium Building is considered the masterpiece of architects Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1975, and was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1976.

Chicago Arts Partnership in Education (CAPE) improves student learning by partnering with schools to integrate the arts into the curriculum. CAPE achieves this goal by advancing innovative arts integration practice and policy within the fields of education and the arts, primarily in Chicago public schools; and actively participating in professional dialogue with practitioners, researchers and leaders in the field.

Chicago Humanities Festival Since 1990, the world's most exciting thinkers have come to Chicago each fall for a Festival celebrating ideas in the context of civic life. Co-sponsored by the city's cultural institutions, each Festival brings together novelists, scholars, musicians, archaeologists, historians, artists, performers, playwrights, theologians, poets, architects, policy makers, and others, to offer presentations around a theme of universal interest, such as Love and Marriage, Crime and Punishment, Work and Play, or New & Old.

Chicago Historical Society is a privately endowed, independent institution devoted to collecting, interpreting, and presenting the rich multicultural history of Chicago and Illinois, as well as selected areas of American history, to the public through exhibitions, programs, research collections and publications.

CHS co-sponsors the Metro History Fair The annual History Fair serves 17,000 students and 350 teachers in 200 area schools who participate in school, regional, state and national history contests. To present their work, students produce papers, exhibits, media documentaries and live performances.

Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center mission is to create and impart dance diversity at its best. This includes world-class choreography, performance, professional training and community outreach that connect with new and experienced multi-cultural audiences and students of all backgrounds.

Field Museum of Natural History is an educational institution concerned with the diversity and relationships in nature and among cultures. It provides collection-based research and learning for greater public understanding and appreciation of the world in which we live. Its collections, public learning programs, and research are inseparably linked to serve a diverse public of varied ages, backgrounds and knowledge.

Gallery 37 is a quality arts programs that provides self-exploration, skill development, aesthetic awareness, and empower communities to achieve excellence. Learning and creating alongside Chicago's top arts professionals, who serve as teaching artists, Chicago teens learn valuable life lessons while earning a wage and polishing their creative skills. Gallery 37 hosts programs throughout Chicago and has been replicated throughout the U.S.

Goodman Theatre offers the flagship free Student Subscription Series which is now in its 19th year. Offered to Chicago Public High Schools, this program has attracted national and international attention. Each season, the Student Subscription Series provides nearly 1600 students and 45 teachers from 35 public high schools with free weekday matinee subscriptions to the first four productions in the Albert Ivar Goodman Theatre.

Harold Washington Library is the central library for the Chicago Public Library System and meets the broad spectrum of informational, educational and recreational needs of its patrons. It provides the services of a neighborhood library to the downtown community and collaborates with educational, cultural, social agencies and the business community to enhance services for all patrons.

Hip Hop Congress mission is to create a viable forum for people to learn, express themselves, interact with diverse ideas and cultures, and gain the tools they need to facilitate their own goals. The Hip Hop Congress hopes to set up a global marketplace and network where like-minded individuals and communities can connect, share resources and develop ideas and strategy.

Illinois Humanities Council is an educational organization dedicated to fostering a culture in which the humanities are a vital part of the lives of individuals and communities. The IHC creates and funds numerous humanities activities throughout the state, including library discussions, seminars, lectures, performances, exhibitions, films and written materials.

Merit Music provides high-quality music education to students in metropolitan Chicago. Its primary goals are to help young people achieve their full musical potential, to remove economic barriers to participation and to stimulate personal and educational growth through music.

Northlight Theatre is among the largest and most respected theaters in the Chicago area, with annual attendance approaching 75,000. Northlight is dedicated to enhancing the cultural life of the North Shore and Chicago by presenting life-affirming theatrical works that reflect and challenge the values and beliefs of the community it serves.

Ravinia Festival in Highland Park is the oldest outdoor music festival in North America and is lauded for presenting world-class music. Ravinia has identified community outreach and education initiatives as a key mission. The Festival runs its acclaimed programs in 24 inner-city schools throughout Chicago and will soon move into other under-served areas.

School of the Art Institute's mission is to establish and conduct comprehensive programs of education including preparation of visual artists, teachers of art, and designers; to provide education services in written, spoken, and media formats. Its objective is to assemble a diverse body of intelligent, creative students and faculty in an environment designed to facilitate and encourage the discovery, production of significant ideas and images.

Sherwood Conservatory of Music is an urban center for comprehensive community music education. Certified by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, the Conservatory trains gifted young musicians who anticipate careers in music, beginning and amateur musicians of all ages, preschool children and parents, and professional musicians and music educators seeking continuing education.

Teatro Vista - Theatre With a View is firmly committed to sharing and celebrating the riches of Latino culture with all Chicago theatre audiences. This commitment stems from the belief that there are as may similarities as there are differences, and that perhaps the answer to breaking down the walls of prejudice and stereotypes lies in understanding these differences. Ultimately, it is through this "view" that Teatro Vista intends to bridge the gap between Latino and non-Latino cultures in Chicago.



Colleges and Universities

Chicago City Colleges is a system of seven community colleges, provides learning opportunities for Chicago's diverse populations to enhance their knowledge and skills through quality, comprehensive and affordable, educational programs and services.

Chicago State University is a public, comprehensive, urban institution of higher learning located on the south side of Chicago that strives for excellence in teaching, research, creative expression, and community service. Its mission is to: 1) provide access to higher education for residents of the region, the state and beyond, and 2) produce graduates who are responsible, discerning and informed global citizens with a commitment to lifelong learning and service

Columbia College is an undergraduate and graduate college whose principal commitment is to provide a comprehensive educational opportunity in the arts, communications, and public information within a context of enlightened liberal education. Columbia is an urban institution whose students reflect the economic, racial, cultural, and educational diversity of contemporary America.

DePaul University pursues the preservation, enrichment, and transmission of knowledge and culture across a broad scope of academic disciplines. It treasures its deep roots in the wisdom nourished in Catholic universities from medieval times. The principal distinguishing marks of DePaul are its Catholic, Vincentian and urban character.

East-West University is a non-denominational and independent institution of higher learning that has been providing quality education since 1980 and is strategically located in the South Loop of downtown Chicago. East-West offers courses in the liberal arts and sciences along with job and career related professional education geared to the service economy of modern times.

Erickson Institute is a graduate school in child development and a host of relevant disciplines, including sociology, psychology, biology, neurology, anthropology, health care, law, and public policy. The Institute maintains close ties to professionals, schools, families, and agencies in the Chicago metropolitan community through its professional development and continuing education programs, community-based projects, public service and advocacy.

German American Partnership Program, Hegel Gymnasium in Madeberg Germany is affiliated with the The Goethe-Institut, the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. The Goethe Institut promotes knowledge of the German language abroad, fosters international cultural cooperation and conveys a comprehensive picture of Germany by providing information on Germany's cultural, social and political life.

Illinois Institute of Technology mission to educate people from all countries for complex professional roles in a changing technological world and to advance knowledge through research and scholarship. IIT offers programs in Engineering, Architecture, Sciences, Psychology, Business Administration, Humanities, Internet Communications, and Professional and Technical Communication.

Loyola University of Chicago is Chicago's Jesuit Catholic University, a diverse community seeking God in all things and working to expand knowledge in the service of humanity through learning, justice and faith. Loyola has nine schools and colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Graduate Studies, Law, Nursing, Medicine, Professional Studies, Social Work.

Malcolm X College of Chicago one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is a comprehensive community college. Its mission is to empower each individual to be all he or she is capable of becoming through quality comprehensive and affordable educational programs and services.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology The mission of MIT is to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century. MIT is independent, coeducational, and privately endowed. Its five schools and one college encompass 34 academic departments, divisions, and degree-granting programs, as well as numerous interdisciplinary centers, laboratories, and programs whose work cuts across traditional departmental boundaries.

MIT Club of Chicago The MIT Club of Chicago is part of MIT's alumni network, serving Illinois and some the neighboring states. MIT Chicago organizes several events annually and has a membership of approximately 2,000 alumni/ae. The club leadership comprises a team of officers and a board of directors.

Robert Morris College is a private, not-for-profit, associates and baccalaureate degree-granting institution, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. RMC serves over 6,500 students interested in getting an education that meets the demands of today's business, graphic arts, health care, culinary and technical world at its main campus in Chicago as well as at locations in Orland Park, Bensenville, Springfield, Peoria and Lake County.

National-Louis University mission is to develop highly competent and humane individuals to serve and lead in an increasingly diverse and global society. Central to this mission is a commitment to life-long and active engagement in learning. As an independent, not-for-profit university that values teaching, NLU links tested theory and practice with the on-going experiences of its students.

Roosevelt University aspires to be a national leader in educating socially conscious citizens for active and dedicated lives as leaders in their professions and their communities. Roosevelt University is known for its distinctive metropolitan focus and its rigorous, innovative curricula in the liberal arts and sciences, the performing arts, and select professional degree programs.

University of Chicago is a private, nondenominational, coeducational institution of higher learning and research located in Hyde Park, a culturally rich and ethnically diverse community on Chicago's South Side.

University of Illinois at Chicago is a comprehensive public university located in the center of Chicago. It is one of three campuses of the State of Illinois' land-grant university, the University of Illinois. Its mission comprises three traditional elements-teaching, research, and public service, each shaped by and relevant to its metropolitan setting as well as the University of Illinois' pursuit of excellence.



Civic Organizations

Building With Books mission is to enhance education and empower youth in the U.S. to make a positive difference in their communities while helping people of developing countries increase their self-reliance through education. BwB achieves its mission thanks to a team of dedicated student and adult volunteers, project coordinators, teachers and BwB staff who commit themselves to learning about others and themselves through cultural education, community service activities and sponsorship events.

Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement Since 2001, CIRCLE has conducted, collected, and funded research on the civic and political participation of young Americans. CIRCLE is based in the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy and is funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts and Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Center for Urban School Improvement, University of Chicago seeks to transform urban schools into strong learning communities for both children and adults. To achieve its vision, USI engages in a continuing process of researching the problems specific to urban schools; building school-based programs; assembling technologically advanced systems and tools; and providing sustained professional development for teachers, full-time tutors, literacy coordinators and school administrators.

Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce serves as the 'unified business voice of greater Chicago,' aggressively representing business interests at the city, county, regional and state levels. The Chamber enhances its members' success through aggressive programs of advocacy, member benefits and services and actionable information.

Chinese American Service League is the largest and most comprehensive social service agency in the Midwest dedicated to serving the needs of Chinese Americans. Housed in the Kam L. Liu Building, with over 200 multilingual and multicultural professional and support staff, CASL supports programming that mainly serves newly-arrived immigrants who often do not have formal education, possess few transferable job skills and know little of the world around them.

Chicago Principals and Administrators Association The Principals' Partnership is a three-year program designed to assist principals in meeting their leadership needs and professional growth objectives. The Partnership consists of on-site assistance from a personal consultant, networking among principals from similar communities and school settings, a Summer Institute focused on the needs of partnership principals and other professional development activities during the academic year.

Chicago Teachers Union Local 1 of the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, represents more than 35,000 pre-K-12 teachers and paraprofessionals working to inspire and educate Chicago Public School students.

Close Up Washington The Close Up Foundation is the nation's largest nonprofit 501(c) (3), nonpartisan citizenship education organization. Since its founding in 1970, Close Up has worked to promote responsible and informed participation in the democratic process through a variety of educational programs. Close Up conducts programs to increase civic involvement, promote civic achievement, and encourage civic awareness.

Collaboratory Project, Northwestern University is a Northwestern University initiative that provides project consulting, training, technical advice, and Web-based resources and services to K-12 teachers and their students who are interested in using Internet technologies to advance education.

Computers for Schools is committed to realizing these imperatives by creating and maintaining extraordinary partnerships to assist schools in attaining the technology they need; expanding and improving education for our entire nation.

Cross City Campaign for School Reform The mission of the Cross City Campaign is to develop knowledge and build capacity in urban public schools, districts, families, and communities to create high quality and equitable teaching and learning so all young people are well prepared for post-secondary education, work, and civic participation.

EPIIC Inquiry The Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship (EPIIC) program at Tufts University works to promote the active engagement of young people in global and national issues and to create tangible, collaborative relationships within and among the academy, the general public and the professional community.

Friends of the Chicago River mission is to foster the vitality of the Chicago River for the human, plant and animal communities within its watershed. Friends actively pursues on-the-ground projects that have a real impact on the Chicago River and, at the same time, reconnect people to the Chicago River and to their communities.

Hostelling International - Chicago The HI-Chicago mission is to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling. JCP students participate in HI-Chicago's Cultural Kitchen program, which provides 400 young Chicagoans every year with the opportunity to travel right in their own city by familiarizing them with the downtown area, where the two-year old hostel is located. Students learn about a culture that is new to them, which includes making an authentic meal of the chosen culture. While at the hostel, students interact with international travelers, giving them another opportunity to experience world cultures.

Illinois Resource Center has provided assistance to teachers and administrators serving linguistically and culturally diverse students. With support from the Illinois State Board of Education, the IRC has emerged as a major statewide intermediate service agency, and its educational and professional development programs have helped thousands of teachers throughout Illinois and the nation to develop effective instructional practices for language minority students.

Leadership for Quality Education supports innovation in public education, brings business ideas and resources to the table, empowers new leaders to rethink and start schools and partners with others to improve opportunities for children to succeed in Chicago Public Schools. Besides its work on charters and small schools, LQE focuses on two other areas, human resources/evaluation and accountability.

Mikva Challenge was founded in 1997 as a tribute to Abner and Zoe Mikva who have fostered a dedication to community service in thousands of young people across the Chicago area. The essential philosophy of all Mikva Challenge programs is that the best way for young people to learn civics is to actively participate in the democratic process.

Near South Planning Board is a not-for-profit community based organization serving businesses, property owners, developers and institutions for close to 60 years.

Printers Row Chamber of Commerce The Chamber works to represent the interests of local businesses and to foster community improvements. By working closely with governmental, residential and commercial sectors, we strive to enhance Printers Row for the benefit of all.

Greater South Loop Neighbors is a not-for-profit neighborhood organization. It is compromised of an alliance of residents living between the Congress Parkway on the North, the Stevenson Expressway on the South, the lake west and the river east. The overarching mission of GSLA is to maintain and improve the south loop as a vibrant and diverse, inclusive community.

South Loop Educational Alliance (SLEA) mission is to engage the public at large and assist the local school councils, local administration and Board of Education with the advancement of student, teacher, local school council and administrative performance. Its primary goal is to help implement the guidelines as expressed by the Chicago Public Schools and manage the process for continued improvement.

South Loop Neighbors South Loop Neighbors is a non-profit membership based organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in South Loop's neighborhoods and preserving the area's landmark districts. South Loop Neighbors serves members and residents within the area bounded by Congress Parkway to approximately 15th Street and from the Chicago River to Lake Michigan.



Corporations and Foundations

AT&T Enrich AT&T believes that support for arts and culture can strengthen the communities where our employees and customers live and work by enriching lives and fostering creativity and diversity. Since its inception in 1984, the AT&T Foundation has supported more than 1,250 new opera productions, dance works, plays and musicals, music compositions, and contemporary exhibitions at more than 480 institutions around the world.

Bank One is part of the new JPMorgan Chase created on July 1, 2004 upon completion of the holding company merger between JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Bank One Corporation. The firm is a leader in investment banking, financial services for consumers and businesses, financial transaction processing, asset and wealth management and private equity. The headquarters for JPMorgan Chase is based in Chicago with support in New York City.

The Barbara Bates Foundation was founded in 1999 by international, Chicago-based fashion designer Barbara Bates. The Foundation was created after publicity generated that year when Bates spoke at a local alternative high school and promised free prom dresses for those girls who reached their goal of "graduating against the odds."

The Boeing Company is a committed and long-standing supporter of education institutions and programs. The largest single block of company contributions goes to education, including K-12 and college and university programs across the nation and in the countries where Boeing has operations. In addition to school support, Boeing is committed to a performance-based educational system and is involved in initiatives at local, state and national levels. The company contributes to educational reform through corporate and personal leadership and financial support.

Burnham Park Plaza is one of the most prominent mixed use commercial and residential developments in the South Loop.

Chicago Community Bank is the oldest locally owned community bank in Chicago that has proudly served the community for over 85 years. Chicago Community Bank has a branch office located in Dearborn Station.

Chicago Public Education Fund mission is to accelerate achievement for all Chicago public school students, especially the neediest, by building talented teams of principals and teachers. As a venture philanthropy, The Fund serves as a catalyst and strategic investment partner with businesses, foundations, civic and community leaders and the Chicago Public Schools to invest dollars and ideas in high-impact programs that improve school leadership and student achievement system wide.

Chicago Scholars Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged youth in Chicago pursue their dream of attending a college or other post-secondary education. Constitutional Rights Foundation helps schools foster critical thinking skills and responsible civic action in students. Non-profit and non-partisan, CRFC has been a national leader in the design and implementation of quality law-related education (LRE) programs for elementary and secondary school students and their teachers.

D2 Realty Company is a full-service real estate firm engaged in residential and commercial development, property management, construction and real estate brokerage. D2 is also the developer of the Wells Street Tower which is located in the South Loop, overlooking the Chicago River and the Printer's Row community.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education.
