The Jones College Prep Writing Center
The Writing Center supports students as writers across the curriculum through individualized conversations with experienced writers.
Aligned with the Jones College Prep mission statement, the Writing Center is a supportive space that helps students ask questions, request feedback, contemplate ideas, explore resources, and employ self-directed tactics to improve their communication competence and confidence.
This development occurs through student-centered, interactive conferences that range between fifteen and thirty minutes. Walk-in and scheduled appointments are available.
Writing consultants are available in 213 during all lunch periods and, when possible, at Homework Club after school.
Results
During the first year of operation (2006-2007), the JCP Writing Center hosted over 550 one-on-one conferences that successfully helped students in all subject areas.
After visiting the Writing Center, four of our 2007 JCP seniors had their college personal statements air on Chicago Public Radio's Eight Forty-Eight. Click on the names below to listen:
