Ways to Invest in the Future of Jones College Prep and Its Students - http://www.jonescollegeprep.org/strategic_plan.jsp

Pathways for Making a Gift to Jones College Prep
  • Directly to Jones College Prep (JCP), a Chicago Public School (CPS).

Gifts can be made directly to JCP. If they are intended to be fully spent in the current fiscal year, the funds will be put into an internal budget line of the JCP program with instructions that they be spent for the purpose stated by the donor upon making the gift. In general, gifts to a CPS school are tax deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code (gifts to a governmental entity for the public purposes of the governmental entity).

Gifts expected to be spent over several years can be kept in a segregated account managed by the CPS Treasury Department and not be put into an active budget line. Interest and/or dividends would accrue to that specific gift. Again, gifts made out in the name of Jones College Prep will be deposited in JCP internal accounts and reported annually to the Board of Education.

  • To the Children First Fund (CFF)

Restricted gifts can be made to JCP and CPS by way of the Children First Fund. The mission of The Children First Fund: The Chicago Public Schools Foundation is to aid Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in its pursuit of academic excellence by funding programs that supplement the educational opportunities that are regularly offered to CPS students. In addition to fundraising for its own programs, the Fund acts as a fiscal agent for special grants and donations given to CPS. Established in July of 1996 as an independent 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, the Children First Fund is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

  • To the Chicago Community Trust (CCT) in the CPS Account

CPS and Jones College Prep have articulated and will articulate from time to time specific gift opportunities. A donor could make a gift for such purpose through a designated or restricted fund at the Chicago Community Trust (CCT). This approach might be preferred by a donor for gifts that are intended to be expended over more than one school year.

Note: These are general guidelines. Each donor will need to obtain their own legal and accounting opinions before making specific gifts.
