Detention Action Levels and Consequences
In an effort to teach to high standards of behavioral excellence, Jones College Prep makes a clear connection between behavior and participation. This table also identifies actions on the part of parents / guardians, students, and the school. Families should review this table carefully to help set the student up for success in meeting the school’s standards of behavior.

Action Level

Action Taken/Consequence

It is the student’s full responsibility to track his / her own detention count and other discipline issues.  If you commit the offense, make note of the consequence and assume that you have received it.  Students can also check in with the discipline office.

3-4 detentions

The student is warned that he/she is 1or 2 detentions away from being placed on the AIL.  A conversation with the Assistant Dean or designee and student will occur. Whereby the student is encouraged to serve his/her detentions and to not incur any further detentions.

5 detentions

Student is placed on the AIL.  At this level, the student is not allowed to participate in any activities (i.e. senior activities including junior / senior prom, luncheon; dances, any social activities including, but not limited to, field trips, sports activities, club activities, fine arts performances, etc.) until their detention count is brought to zero.  Additionally, students at this level may be referred to the peer jury and held accountable for that group’s recommendations

10 detentions

Parent/Student Conference with Assistant Dean or designee. (on the phone or in person). The student will serve 1 In-School Suspension (ISS).  The first ISS will satisfy 5 detentions.  Student remains on AIL until the student’s detention count is brought to zero.

Frequent/Continuous  AIL Status

Consequences may include Out of School Suspension and ultimately Suspension. If the student is frequently on the AIL or maintains AIL status for an extended period of time, a Student Review Hearing with the Administration and parents/guardians will take place to discuss whether Jones College Prep is the right school for the student.

A student’s detention count is the number of detentions on record earned minus the number of detentions served on record.  There is no distinction between old and new detentions.

The AIL will be updated every Friday afternoon by the Discipline office and posted every Monday for faculty / staff reference. If a student is on this list on Monday and serves all detentions to zero, regardless of when they serve the last detention (i.e. Wednesday), they will remain on the list until the new list is posted on Friday.

If a student is on the AIL at the deadline of ticket sales for an event, s/he cannot attend as s/he should not purchase a ticket and will be denied a ticket as long as the selling party has been appropriately informed.  If a student is on the AIL at the time that permission forms are due for the trip, s/he cannot attend.  The student on the AIL should know NOT to purchase or submit a permission form.

Students anticipating participation on a trip or an activity must take responsibility for meeting both behavior and academic expectations right up to the start of the trip or event.  Students who arrive on the AIL, who are vetoed for attendance by any teacher for academic reasons, or who have a current F in a class at any time leading up to the event/field trip will be denied participation and no refunds will be given for any monies submitted.
